Starting a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization requires guidance, patience, and using the correct tools. This course will support you or your organization from the initial step(s) involved from writing a Mission Statement, legally establishing your name and incorporating your organization.
Selecting a Board of Directors must be completed in order to explain how the organization shall be run. Included will also be many of your policies including, but not limited to, Code of Ethics, Conflict of Interest, and Records Retention Policies. And, of course, there is the administrative act of filing the appropriate documents with the Secretary of State for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Internal Revenue Service. Emphasis throughout the course will be placed on the value of sound financial management and support from a Certified Public Accountant.
As with any formal organization, the course will explain the value of having an organizational chart and Employee Handbook to share the expectations of the key staff with all stakeholders of your new organization.
Finally, the course covers the ongoing required filings such as the Annual Charitable Organization Registration Statements and provides samples of fundraising used by organization to solicit donations and donor recognition correspondence.
